If you've spent any time outside with my son Brayden, you've probably noticed one thing right away—he's incredibly curious. Every walk, hike, or trip to the park turns into an adventure filled with questions, discoveries, and treasures that somehow find their way home with us.
I'll admit, I don't always have the answers. That's what inspired me to look for free nature apps that could help us identify birds, trees, plants, insects, stars, and more while we explored together. These apps have transformed our outdoor adventures into fun learning experiences for both of us.

What I Love About Seek
This is probably the easiest nature identification app I've used.
The layout is simple, making it easy for Brayden to help use the app instead of simply watching me search online.
One of our favorite features is the badge system. Kids earn virtual badges as they discover different plants and animals, making every walk feel like a fun challenge.
I also love the Nearby Species feature. Before we head outside, I can see what plants and wildlife are commonly found in our area. We've even used it to create our own nature scavenger hunts.
